Course Overview
This is an online book reading and study of Habib Muhammad bin Salim bin Hafiz’s primer on Munakahat (Rules of Marriage) in the Shafi‘i school. This classical text — widely taught in traditional madrasahs across Yemen and Southeast Asia — provides a comprehensive overview of the legal and ethical dimensions of marriage according to the Shafi‘i school. It covers essential topics such as the conditions of a valid marriage, the rulings related to wilayah (guardianship), the shari’y implications (in sacred law) of divorce, and the obligations during ‘iddah (the waiting period). The course is particularly beneficial for students of sacred knowledge who have completed foundational studies in fiqh ibadah and ‘aqidah, madrasah graduates, fiqh teachers, and those serving or aspiring to serve in Shari‘ah courts. Classes will be conducted weekly on Tuesday nights at 9:30 pm via Zoom, with occasional in-person sessions. The course texts and references are in Arabic and the medium of instruction is Bahasa Indonesia. This class will run until the book is read in completion. The course will be taught by Kiyai Muhaemin Abdul Basit, founder and principal teacher of Pesantren Minhaj an-Nizom.
